Anyways, I was in the air for a grand total of 43 minutes, to arrive at the tiniest airport I have ever seen. Or remembered. Whatever. I was kind of in awe as I stepped out of the plane and realized it wasn't connected to a building, and was all open-air. Silly me, I didn't even think of this! And… not gonna lie, it was exciting. xD
Hehe, anyways, so my uncle and cousin Adam picked me up, and we had Genki Sushi. The choices they have in Hawaii are ridiculously yummy, and it's not fair we don't have them in Washington…
Uwaaaa~ <3
The rest of the day was spent waiting for my cousin Leilani to get off of work, and staying up talking till all hours. :)
Saturday the 24th, was a ridiculously-fun day. Like, who wakes up one day and decides "I'm going to go see dolphins today." ?? Welp, we did. :D
After visiting the oh-so-amazing Target and it's new produce section (ohhh, small-town/island life… xD), we loaded up the kayaks and went down to Honokohau harbor. Where, I got to do something that was like fulfilling a lifelong, childhood dream.
Ever since I was little, I always loved dolphins, and they were probably my favorite animal for a good while. At the "Sea Life Park" near our house, they had shows with them, and packages where you could pay to swim with them. I would always dream of doing that, even though I never did. But, today… Oh goodness, dolphins. Dolphins. Everywhere. *SO-SUPER-EXCITED*
Underneath me~
I had so much fun, omgomgomgomg. :D
And THEN, we did another amazing thing. Leilani took me and a friend to Kiholo (Queen's bath). It is a lava tube with runoff from Mauna Kea (which has snow guys, just fyi ^^), so is a freshwater pool. And, it goes back like a million miles into pitch-blackness, and is FREEZING COLD! Pretty insane. It was incredible, and I risked my (old point and shoot!) camera in order to take pictures, but they didn't come out all that amazing… Just know, it looked like 10 times cooler than this. ^^
Then, custom-order sushi at a place called Hayashi's (mine was spicy ahi, avocado, and green onions). YUM~
The rest of the day was spent at a party, and playing games with some other friends of Lei's at their house. And, I watched Napoleon Dynamite for the first time ever, and it was… Interesting? ^.~
Anyways, we ended up getting back late and going to bed around 1:00am, Saturday night. Which, left about 3 hours to sleep before we had to wake up to drive up to Mauna Kea! Which, we did. My uncle drove us all the way up to the visitors' center, and then…. CLOSED. Fail. Sadness. :(((( It had sleeted and snowed during the night. So, no sunrise for us…. Oh well. Just means I'll have to come back another time. :)
While we were near that side of the island, we did drive to see my old house I had lived in when I was in preschool. :) We left the island just before I started kindergarten, but I surprisingly have a lot of memories of this adorable A-frame house!! Though, it looks so much smaller, when I see it now… x)
Because we had started the day so ridiculously-early, we went to eat breakfast at B.I.G. (Big Island Grill), and then were able to go to their church afterwards.
Sweet bread french toast~
Then, ANOTHER beach with Lei and another friend. This one was called Magic Sands, apparently because the sand gets washed out and it becomes just rocks, but then it "magically" comes all back in again. Pretty cool~ (no pics here though, but it's okay because it was CROWDED)
Then… we actually just took a nap, 'cause we were exhausted. :P Then, got Chinese food and ate it at Otec, a beach by their ocean research center, and took some pictures:
My crazy uncle. :P
Me and my cuz~
Then, flew back to Oahu! It was a very-packed two days, but was AWESOME, and I'm so happy I was able to go! Many, many thanks to my uncle for this trip! ^^
